DESY operates the Free-Electron Laser FLASH, which is one of the pioneering facilities in its field. In the next few years FLASH goes through an in depth upgrade program covering all aspects of the facility. After finishing the FLASH 2020+ project the facility will offer even more superior experimental possibilities for the international user community.
The position
DESY is seeking a lead senior scientist (W3) with the following responsibilities:
- Leading the user operation and inhouse research activities at the Free-Electron Laser FLASH
- Leading a scientific group active in soft X-ray FEL research fields
- Representing the facility and research at national and international conferences
- Fostering and enlarging the user community at FLASH
- Contributing to the strategic development of the facility and the research centre
- Acting on international advisory boards on behalf of DESY
- Exploring options for third party fund raising on national and international level
- Engagement in education and training of young scientists, engineers and technicians
Requirements
- PhD in natural sciences, preferably in physics or chemistry or equivalent
- Long standing experience in X-ray Laser science
- Proven track record in condensed matter physics or atomic, molecular or cluster physics
- Long standing experience in leading scientific groups
- Solid knowledge of the international large-scale research landscape
