Reporting to the Machine Director, the successful candidate leads the research and development of accelerator systems and components to improve or enhance the capability of the CLS facilities for synchrotron research and applications. The AOD Manager motivates and leads a team of accelerator physicists, engineers and technologists who develop, deploy, monitor, maintain, upgrade and support the operation of the accelerator systems and storage ring facilities, ensuring optimal performance and with particular attention to radiation safety. They collaborate with other departments to plan resource allocations and use, ensuring alignment with the strategic direction. The AOD Manager holds primary responsibility for managing the human resources activities of the department including recruitment and selection, supervision, scheduling, professional development, performance management and discipline.
Qualifications: A relevant undergraduate or master’s degree, including a minimum of seven years of work experience in progressive leadership/managerial roles. Highly developed interpersonal, organizational, planning and leadership skills are required. The candidate should possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders, effective presentation skills, sound judgement, and demonstrated ability to build rapport and resolve complex issues among multiple levels of staff.
