Organization Setting

The Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) has been established in Jordan, under the auspices of UNESCO. Its mission is to promote international collaboration in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region using synchrotron light for basic and applied research in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, environmental and medical investigations, archaeological studies and other research areas of relevance to the region. The centerpiece of SESAME is an advanced 2.5 GeV synchrotron light source that has been constructed and is operated by the Members of SESAME with the support of the international community. SESAME is an international scientific and technological center of excellence open to all qualified scientists worldwide. Three beamlines (XAFS/XRF, IR and MS) are currently in operation and open to external users and two more beamlines (for X-ray tomography and soft X-ray spectroscopy)
are under construction.

Assignment

Under the supervision of the Technical Director, and in close collaboration with the
cooling team, the main responsibilities of the candidate will be:
 Running equipment, monitoring and investigating their performance.
 Inspecting and controlling reading values of instruments like: temperature and pressure gauges, valves, pumps frequency, and carrying out periodic checks, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance if needed.
 Carrying out investigation, repair and preventive maintenance duties on the cooling system parts: pumps and motors, chillers, air conditioning system, compressed air system, De-Ionized water unit, piping system, valves, couplings, filters and flow switches.
 Chemically treating the chilled water to prevent corrosion and rust.
 Providing support out of working time, if needed.
 Participate in the commissioning and upgrading of new cooling systems.
 Provide support for machine operation and for the running cooling systems, in responding to operational faults and requests for development and/or enhancements.

Education and Experience

 Diploma in Mechanical engineering/or extensive hands on experience in
cooling & pneumatic systems.
 Minimum 3 years of working experience in operating, maintaining and
repairing certain equipment for the HVAC systems, water-cooling systems,
pumping systems, compressed air systems, and De-Ionized water systems.
 Very good knowledge of using water quality instruments.
 Very good knowledge of the methods, practices, test instruments, tools, and
materials typically applied in repairing and servicing the cooling systems, and
other similar systems.
 Ability to effectively file work orders and write reports, and good knowledge of
using computer.

 Available to travel abroad, including periods away from home.
 Very good knowledge of English (oral and written).
 High degree of multi-tasking and time management capability.
 Integrity and professionalism.
 Team spirit and good communication skills.

Remuneration
Appointment is made by SESAME Director. The Cooling Technician will be hired at
the Grade and Step compatible with his/her experience.
