About Us

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.

The Electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC) at Diamond provides scientists with state-of-the-art experimental equipment and expertise in the field of cryo-electron microscopy (CryoEM), for single particle analysis and cryo-tomography.

About the Role

We now have an exciting opportunity to join our growing team for Cryo-electron Microscopy Scientists.

You will form part of our outstanding eBIC and Bio-Imaging group which includes five Titan Krios microscopes all equipped with a Falcon III, Gatan Quantum K3 Summit and Volta phase plate, a Talos, a Glacios, a Scios and an Aquilos dual-beam. A cryo-super resolution fluorescence microscope is also available for correlative microscopy work.

As part of the eBIC scientific team you will contribute towards running our 3D cryoEM facility and participate and contribute to the eBIC research and development programme. You will provide expert guidance, training and advice in areas covering sample preparation and the methods and application of single particle cryoEM, cryoET and image processing, as well as analysis and interpretation of EM maps.

As an independent researcher, you will contribute to in-house research activities which are focussed on structural and cellular biology and software and hardware developments in cryoEM.

About You

You should have a PhD degree in a structural biology or electron microscopy related field, along with a demonstrable record of accomplishment in conducting high quality original research.

Previous knowledge or experience at postgraduate level in cryoEM is desirable.

You will demonstrate good interpersonal, communication and presentational skills, with the ability to interact with staff and facility users at all levels.
