DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.

 

The position

The Director for Accelerators leads the Machine (M-) Division with about 600 scientists, engineers and technicians and will – as a member of the Board of Directors – decisively take part in shaping the overall laboratory strategy and its execution. The M-Division is responsible for the operation and development of the PETRA-III, FLASH and European XFEL accelerators and for conducting a worldwide leading R&D program in accelerator physics

and technology (ARD).

 

The Upgrade of FLASH and of PETRA-III towards ultra-low emittance, the preparation of an upgrade of the superconducting XFEL linac as well as the development of advanced high-gradient acceleration concepts for future compact facilities are at the core of DESYs mid- and long-term strategy.

 

Internationally very well recognized scientists with a record of excellence in the field of accelerator physics and/or technology and who have demonstrated leadership in the environment of a larger scientific laboratory are invited to apply.

 

Knowledge of the German language would be considered as an advantage.
