About the Role

We now have an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Beamline Technician as part of a progressive team of technicians in a high tech environment, offering a diverse and challenging role in which you can enhance and develop your skills, with an opportunity to be creative.

At Diamond our science is technology driven, requiring the installation and maintenance of often bespoke complex hardware, positioning samples tens of microns or smaller in size, with micron to sub-micron accuracies both in and out of vacuum and at cryogenic or room temperatures. This role will include involvement in delivering hardware capable of this, and to help maintain high levels of reliability for specialist equipment to enable users to carry out experiments 24/7.

The main duty of the Electrical Beamline Technician is to support the scientists and technical support groups associated with the beamline (research stations) during beamline maintenance, commissioning and operations. You will help maintain the equipment already existing on the beamline, and work with scientists and engineers in designing and installing new equipment as part of upgrades.

You will need to ensure that all beamline and associated laboratory work is carried out in a safe manner, and that the equipment is appropriately integrated and installed.

In addition to electrical and light mechanical assembly tasks you will work closely with the beamline scientists to maintain, test and develop scientific instrumentation, including sensitive electronic devices.

About You

You should have served a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or demonstrate equivalent on-the job experience. Qualifications in BS7671 Wiring Regulations and City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Testing & Inspection are beneficial but not essential.

You will demonstrate skills and experience in electrical and light mechanical assembly. Experience of Electrical cabling to 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations is desirable, as is experience of working to electrical drawings.

You will display good communication and interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels.
