Diamond Light Source is one of the world’s most advanced scientific facilities. We’re home to the UK’s synchrotron light source – a giant microscope producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. Probing the structure and composition of matter, our work drives innovation in everything from vaccines to nanotech.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic scientist to operate and manage a new PhotoEmission Electron Microscope (PEEM) and Low-Energy Electron Microscope (LEEM) facility. The PEEM/LEEM will provide high-resolution magnetic and structural imaging of thin films and nanostructures. You will enable novel research in condensed matter physics and physical chemistry, working with national and international researchers. You will be expected to develop your own scientific research programme using the PEEM/LEEM.
Expertise in a relevant area of condensed matter physics, imaging and scientific instrumentation are essential. You should be able to demonstrate an established reputation in a relevant area of research along with a track record of developing scientific equipment. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the PEEM/LEEM facility and will work as an integral part of a beamline team operating an aberration-corrected PEEM/LEEM. You will be expected to collaborate closely with the user community and to develop the PEEM/LEEM facility to maintain it as a world-class facility.
Please note internally this role is known as a Beamline Scientist.
