Deadline: 2018/05/06
Institution:
Compact Light is an European project with the key objective of demonstrating, through a conceptual design, the feasibility of an innovative, compact and cost effective Free Electron Laser (FEL) facility in the soft and hard X-ray ranges (http://compact-light.web.cern.ch/).
Function:
The selected candidate will take part of the international Compact Light project team, in particular he/she will collaborate with the beam dynamics working group. The mission of this group is to provide the parameters of the FEL that will determine its beam structure, lattice, geometric layout, mechanical tolerances, magnetic transverse focusing and required diagnostics. He/she will make use of simulation codes to perform start to end simulations to evaluate the facility performance. The outcome of the simulations will constitute the basis for the design of all subcomponents of the Compact Light project. The position is placed at the Accelerators Division of the ALBA Synchrotron in Barcelona. Willingness to travel is required to attend occasionally the regular Compact Light project meetings abroad. The duration of the position is of two years.
Qualifications:
Profile: We look forward to an outstanding candidate with experience in beam dynamics simulations of FELs. Of great importance are the motivation and the ability to move a project forward, when working alone and when collaborating with a team. Evaluation criteria: - PhD in accelerator physics or equivalent experience related to the project. - Experience in beam dynamics simulations of FEL. - Programming skills in codes for electron beam simulations. - Good level of English, written and spoken. - Good interpersonal skills and capabilities to work in a group. - Experience in accelerator operation.
