The department Methods for Characterization of Transport Phenomena in Energy Materials is looking for: Instrument Scientist (m/f/d) at the X-ray Spectrometer PEAXIS at BESSY II

Reference No.: EM 2019/5

The Department for Methods for Characterization of Transport Phenomena in Energy Materials engages in fundamental research on quantum materials with a particular focus on electronic structure and dynamics in condensed matter and the coupling of electrons to quasiparticles. The transport behavior of phonons and electrons is investigated by scattering techniques (neutrons and photons) available at the large scale facilities of HZB and elsewhere. Spectroscopy of electronic excitations is performed at the RIXS spectrometer PEAXIS for soft X-rays which is operated by the Department at the synchrotron BESSY II. To support our team and the user service at PEAXIS we are looking for a highly motivated instrument responsible.

  • support of international users at the RIXS spectrometer PEAXIS

  • software development for instrument control and data analysis
  • accomplishment of a successful research program employing soft X-ray scattering experiments at PEAXIS
  • publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals

  • strong experimental background in solid state physics
  • experimental experience with inelastic photon scattering and / or photoelectron spectroscopy
  • good software programming and coding skills
