Instrument Scientist (f/m) at the X-ray Spectrometer PEAXIS

Website HZBde Bessy II at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin

Reference No.: EM 2018/16The Department for Methods for Characterization of Transport Phenomena in Energy Materials engages in fundamental research on novel energy conversion materials with a particular focus on thermoelectric materials. The aim is to enhance the efficiency of materials for the conversion of thermal to electric energy. The transport behavior of phonons and electrons is investigated by scattering techniques (neutrons and photons) available at the large scale facilities of HZB. Spectroscopy of excitations is performed at the RIXS and XPS spectrometer PEAXIS for soft X-rays which is operated by the Department at the synchrotron BESSY II. To support our team and the user service at PEAXIS (from autumn 2018 on) we are looking for a highly motivated instrument responsible.

Tasks

  • support of international users at the RIXS and XPS spectrometer PEAXIS
  • maintenance and further development of PEAXIS
  • accomplishment of a successful research program employing soft X-ray scattering experiments at PEAXIS
  • data evaluation and interpretation of measured RIXS data
  • publication of research results in scientific journals

Requirements

  • strong experimental background in solid state physics
  • experimental experience with inelastic photon scattering and photoelectron spectroscopy
  • ability to work with guest researchers and technical support groups
  • good communication skills and team working abilities
