Organizational Overview
NSLS-II’s Data Science and System Integration (DSSI) program maintains controls and computing infrastructure in support of beamline science. Standards are developed and documented in concert with DSSI technical leadership, property subject matter experts (SMEs), and Laboratory policy (standards-based management system / SBMS) requirements in order to ensure high performance and efficiency of operations

Position Description

With construction, upgrade and maintenance activities ongoing, many standard items are inventoried such as computers, cabling, and licenses. Maintenance and replacements schedules are maintained, with work planned alongside other DSSI development and support activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an asset information management system for critical DSSI assets, providing:
    • Inventory of items
    • Descriptions of standard items and relevant deployment details
    • Access control requirements
  • Maintain and communicate records of deployed and available hardware and licenses
  • Maintain a schedule of planned purchases and deployment of critical assets, working with technical experts to understand and synchronize with product lifecycles of vendor-supplied items
  • Generate requisitions to procure items for spares and planned upgrades
  • Work with suppliers to ensure reliable availability of needed items
  • Manage inventory in accordance with BNL property and security policy
  • Perform regular physical verification of location and state of accountable assets
  • Manage disposition (i.e. loaning, excessing, transferring, disposal) of assets in coordination with BNL property team
  • Assist with management of spaces used for inventory storage
  • Maintain a pool of basic deployment tools and testing equipment
  • Support BNL Operations Security efforts

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in information technology, computer science, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience with asset management systems or inventory databases
  • Demonstrated capability to manage large complex systems or data sets
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of importance of standards to reliability, efficiency, safety, and security
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with MS office

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced degree and/or 5 years related experience
  • Experience with enterprise solutions such as PeopleSoft, Jira, or Insight
  • Experience with database integration, automation, and/or interface development

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Candidate must be capable of lifting 30 pounds and using step stool to reach upper shelves
