European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
The position
Working closely with other laser specialists at EuXFEL, the candidate will:
- gain a thorough understanding of the laser systems and sub-systems in operation as well as associated control electronics and software
- support our continuous improvement process (CIP) by designing and implementing optical and opto-mechanical components and assemblies
- lead liaison with industry partners
- select, acquire and manage spare parts and assemblies
- perform maintenance and repair of ultrashort pulse laser systems.
- support user operation.
Requirements
Bachelor or Masters degree or equivalent academic or industrial experience in photonics, laser engineering or similar. A PhD is considered an asset.
- experience with work in laser labs, in particular with ultra-fast lasers, high power fiber and/or solid-state amplifiers and the associated measurement and characterization methods.
- hands on experience with CAD and electronics is highly valued.
- excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to work in a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary team, with English as the working language.
- knowledge of German and work experience in a large-scale facility are considered assets.
