Shaping the future
European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
The X-Ray Optics (XRO) group is responsible for the X-ray beam transport in the tunnels and shaft buildings of the facility before the experiment hall. This includes design and procurement of mirrors, monochromators, beam loss monitors, collimators and shutters, which are needed to ensure a safe and efficient use of X-ray beams at the experiments. The group also supports Scientific Instrument groups in conceptual design and implementation of X-ray optics around the experiments.
For our X-Ray Optics group we are looking for a
PhD Student (f/m/d) to study & develop 2-colors opportunities at European XFEL
simulation of the beam characteristics, heat load, damage issues of the Optical Delay Line (ODL)
participation to the technical commissioning of the magnetic chicane (MC)
first experiments with the 2-colors set-up at the SQS instrument using the MC
participation in installation and first commissioning of the ODL
participation in the technical commissioning and first experiments at the SQS instrument using the MC and the ODL together
- Master’s degree in Physics
knowledge about x-ray optics would be a useful asset
previous experience with gas phase spectroscopic techniques at FELs, HHG sources or synchrotron radiation facilities
