The position

The successful candidate will be involved and reinforce the scientific activities of the SQS research team aiming to maintain the performances of the instrument on the highest technical level, to perform innovative in-house research and to support the scientific community in ambitious experimental studies. The position entails:

• Operation and development of new optical systems and sources for cutting-edge time-resolved experiments at the shortest timescales, especially in the UV-VUV wavelength regime
• Integration and improvement of the current optical systems for time-resolved multi-wavelength pump-probe experiments
• Development of individual research activities at the European XFEL
• Active participation in the broad science program at the SQS instrument
• Support and consultation to instrument users for their experimental campaign

Requirements

• PhD in physics or an equivalent academic degree
• Proven experience with femtosecond optical lasers including dispersion management and optical design
• Experience with pump-probe experiments on gas phase targets
• Practical knowledge of UHV technologies and/or practical experience at large scale facility (e.g. SR, FEL) would be an asset
• Knowledge of programming languages, Matlab, C++ or Python
