POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW FOR THE TIME-RESOLVED BEAMLINE ID09

Website esrfsynchrotron The European Synchrotron (ESRF)

Job title: Postdoctoral Fellow for the time-resolved beamline ID09 M / F

Ref.: PDID09-2-B

Contract type: Time-limited contract

Salary range: 44K€

Publication start on Front Office : Site internet: 05/10/2021

Contract duration: Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 18 months

CONTEXT & JOB DESCRIPTION

You will participate in the operation of the beamline, ongoing in-house research programmes, provide support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme.

ID09 is a beamline dedicated to time-resolved X-ray studies in physics, chemistry and biology using state of the art instrumentation including picosecond and nanosecond lasers, and a chopper system to isolate ultrashort X-ray pulses from the synchrotron. The goal is to monitor the structural changes taking place at the atomic/molecular level in different kind of systems (solid-state materials, transition metal complexes, biomolecules in solution, etc.) after laser photoexcitation with either X-ray diffraction/scattering or emission spectroscopy. Current research topics include ultrafast dynamics of solid-state materials, the exploration of the phase diagram of different materials through dynamic pulse compression and the investigation of chemical reactions or protein intramolecular motion in solution.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Biophysics obtained less than 3 years ago
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and users
  • Interest in instrumentation and data analysis
  • Proficiency in the use of ultrafast pulsed lasers is an asset
  • Experience in time-resolved X-ray scattering/diffraction, time-resolved X-ray/optical spectroscopy and/or high-pressure physics is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18 month period.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your quality of life and your installation in the Grenoble area when relocation is needed.

The monthly salary may be complemented by additional allowances upon eligibility (expatriation allowance, etc…).
