CONTEXT & JOB DESCRIPTION
You will join the team in charge of operating and upgrading the ESRF beamline ID12, which is dedicated to polarisation dependent X-ray spectroscopies in the energy range between 2 and 15 keV. This method provides unique insights to understand fundamental properties of matter via various order parameters, e.g., spin and orbital moments, electric dipole moment, orbital anapole etc. Matter often reveals new intriguing properties when subjected to extreme conditions such as high magnetic field, electric field and high pressure in combination with low temperature. The beamline offers unique possibilities to study magnetic and electronic properties of matter exploiting polarization dependent X-ray absorption and/or diffraction under applied magnetic field of up to 17 Tesla, at temperatures down to 2 K and under pressures above 50 GPa. In joining the beamline team, you will participate in this exciting research programme and in the support for external users, in further developments of the experimental techniques at the beamline, and follow your own research project.

- Candidates should hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry or closely related science obtained less than 3 years ago.
- Experience in areas such as X-ray spectroscopy and/or scattering is desired.
- A solid background in condensed matter physics is equally important.
- Proficiency in English, the working language of the ESRF
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 or 18-month period.
