Research associate for simulation calculations in radiation protection

The radiation protection group of DESY is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the field of radiation protection at DESY and XFEL. The focus here is on radiation protection at the particle accelerators. We are looking for reinforcement in the area of simulation calculations based on the Monte Carlo simulation code package FLUKA. The problems range from shielding and activation calculations over simulations of radiation fields of free electron lasers and ultrashort pulse lasers. The results of these simulations are to be analyzed and classified. Based on these simulations the resulting measures within the framework of radiation protection concepts have to be specified.

  • Simulations and analysis in the field of radiation protection at conventional accelerators
  • Simulations and analysis in the field of interaction of free electron laser beams with matter and gas
  • Simulations and analysis in the field of ultrashort pulse lasers
  • Activities of a radiation protection officer

About you:
  • Completed scientific university education as physicist (if possible with focus on radiation protection) or comparable education
  • Experience in the application of Monte-Carlo programs in the fields of radiation protection, plasma physics, thermodynamics or material sciences, ideally experience with the FLUKA simulation package
  • Experience in radiation protection (especially in basic radiation protection physics as well as in practical radiation protection)
  • Good ability to work in a team
  • Very high reliability and diligence
  • Fluent English or German language
