Research associate for the project “Cluster of Excellence ‘Advanced Imaging of MatteR’-Extreme X-ray focusing”

The position in accordance with Section28 subsection3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences as soon as possible.

This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section2 of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 2  years.

The position calls for 39 hours per week.


Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

Working in a team, the candidate will-develop and apply techniques to characterize and improve x-ray lenses -develop new imaging methodologies using lab sources, synchrotrons and FELs-investigate the effects of intense x-ray fields generated by focusing XFEL pulses onto materials-investigate coherent diffraction using highly convergent beams


A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. Experience with X-ray synchrotron, XFEL radiation or X-ray lab sources. Some proven knowledge and expertise in wave front sensing x-ray microscopy or coherent diffraction using x-ray sources or short wavelength sources.
