Research associate for the project “Cluster of Excellence ‘Advanced Imaging of Matter’ -X-ray pulse shaping”

The positionin accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 1 June 2019.

This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 3 years. The position calls for 75% of standard work hours per week**.


Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

Development and testing of novel optics for focusing and shaping x-rays.

As part of collaboration perform experiments to compress x-ray FEL pulses to highest intensities ever generated

Investigatation of the effects of intense x-ray fields generated by focusing XFEL pulses onto ma-terials


A university degree in a relevant field. The candidate should have a strong background in optics, imaging, x-ray physics or interferometric methods. Expertise in analytical, quantitative, instrumentation or computational methods is a plus.
