Scientist (Accelerator and FEL Physics)

For the FEL Beam Dynamics Group we are looking for a Scientist Accelerator and FEL Physics.

Your tasks

You will contribute to the upcoming commissioning of the soft X-Ray FEL beamline ATHOS and to the improvement of the performance and operation of SwissFEL in general. The focus of the research activities will be the exploration of new operation modes of the FEL in seeded configuration to provide coherence and pulse length control of the FEL pulse for the users. In addition, you will work on the exploration, compensation and mitigation of collective effects such as CSR or wakefields in the SwissFEL machine and undulator beamline.

Your profile

The successful candidate should have a PhD degree in Accelerator Physics with experience with Free-Electron Lasers, electron bunch interaction with lasers and / or collective effects in relativistic beam transport. Also sufficient knowledge on the underlying theory and expertise in the operation of a linear accelerator. Social competence is required to constructively work together with co-workers within the SwissFEL project.
