With the storage ring PETRA III and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community. PETRA III, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, currently provides 23 undulator beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. High-energy X-rays are used as a powerful tool for solid state spectro-microscopy at beamline P22. The beamline operates several specialized instruments for high resolution studies of the electronic and chemical structure of functional nano-materials. We are seeking to hire a scientist with a particular focus on solid state spectroscopy, instrument development and photoelectron microscopy and diffraction.
About your role:
- Develop your own research and disseminating the results
- Participate in the development and commissioning of experimental instrumentation for P22 Develop and support data acquisition and data analysis software
- Coordinate measurement campaigns in collaboration with international stakeholders

About you:
- Ph.D. in physics, materials science, chemistry or related fields
- Ability to take a leading role in a diverse and international team Experience with photoelectron spectroscopy, microscopy and diffraction
- Demonstrable knowledge in Python or a similar programming language
- Excellent knowledge of English
