About Us
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. Located on the Harwell Science & Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, a 20-minute drive south of Oxford in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Diamond Light Source conducts world-class research in virtually all fields of science and offers rewarding career opportunities. We are currently planning a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II which will combine a new machine and new beamlines with a comprehensive series of upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities and computing.
About the Role
We now have a unique opportunity for a (Senior) Beamline Scientist to join the Coherent Soft X-ray Imaging and Diffraction (CSXID) beamline, one of the Diamond-II upgrade flagship beamlines dedicated to 3D operando imaging of magnetic nanodevices and functional materials.
We are seeking someone to lead the development of an instrument dedicated to operando imaging of functional materials including photovoltaics, battery materials and catalytic particles. The role will involve close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to drive the development of both hardware and software and requires excellent communication and organisational skills. Once operational, the successful candidate will participate in the maintenance, development, and upgrades of the beamline as well as the provision of user support.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop an internationally competitive research program in line with the capabilities of the CSXID beamline.
Applicants will be considered at either Grade 4 or 5, depending on the strength of your skills, experience, and qualifications.
About You
You should hold an appropriate Science or Engineering Degree or equivalent as well as a appropriate PhD and proven relevant experience.
Applications with an active research program in imaging functional materials or a related field are encouraged. The research program should ideally include experience with in-situ or operando measurement techniques including the experimental setup, analysis, and interpretation of data.
The successful candidate will have proven knowledge and experience of synchrotron-based x-ray techniques, ideally with experience of coherent imaging techniques or polarised x-ray spectroscopy.
For consideration at the senior level, candidates are expected to have experience in developing and installing synchrotron instrumentation as well demonstrating an internationally recognised research program with a vision for how your research would complement the capabilities of the CSXID beamline.
