SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is in the final construction phase of LCLS-II, which will be the first fully CW Superconducting Linac-based X-ray Free Electron Laser. We are also planning for the high energy upgrade to LCLS-II, which will double the beam energy.  This is a very exciting time for SLAC, and for the new science opportunities that will arise with these new capabilities.

The Accelerator Directorate is seeking an SRF Technical Lead to support the efforts for the commissioning and operation of the new superconducting accelerator system and plan future infrastructure for R&D and maintenance needs.  The Technical Lead will be expected to be familiar will all aspects of cryomodule operation and commissioning, including SRF cavity operation, LLRF controls, cryogenics, and microphonics.

The successful candidate will work with other engineers and scientists at SLAC and collaborating laboratories to achieve the best possible performance of the new SC linac systems at SLAC.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading efforts for systems integration and commissioning of the new SC linac at SLAC
  • Coordinate efforts with partner labs related to commissioning and operations
  • Develop plans for infrastructure needs related to SC Linac maintenance and also future R&D activities.
  • Assist in training of junior SRF staff at SLAC in SC Linac operations.

Note: This is a three-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension or converting to regular-continuing position.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • B.S. in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field with minimum eight years of experience in superconducting RF accelerator systems
  • Experience operating and testing SRF cavities and cryomodules
  • Experience designing and operating superconducting accelerator technology
  • Experience developing and utilizing superconducting RF support infrastructure
  • Experience with cryogenic systems.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
