We are seeking a suitable candidate to provide maternity cover as a support scientist who will primarily work on our synchrotron instrument for long duration experiments (LDEs). The position will be based on Beamline I11 at Diamond, which is a dedicated high-resolution and time-resolved powder diffraction facility. It is a versatile and flexible instrument catering to diverse types of experiments using a wide range of sample environments. These include LDEs to study slow dynamics such as capacity loss in Li-ion batteries, mineral formations in cold environments and structural degradation of materials under non-ambient conditions. Candidates should have appropriate qualifications and experience in the use of X-ray powder diffraction. Experience of synchrotron methodology, laboratory analysis (SEM, Raman and IR) and data refinement would be an advantage. S/he will be required to work with the beamline team and with other support staff to ensure efficient beamline operation, user support, maintenance of sample cells and testing new software.
