European XFEL logo

Join our team

European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques. User operation has started in September 2017.

The position

The successful candidate will contribute to further developments of the theory of interaction between FEL radiation and matter, with applications to experimental cases of interest for one or more Instruments at the European XFEL.  He/She will work in close cooperation with scientists at the European XFEL and with large international collaborations. A non-exhaustive list of possible scientific subjects of interest follows:

  • DFT/GW calculations electronic structure of solids and theoretical investigation of X-ray Absorption Spectrum (XAS), X-ray Emission Spectrum (XES), Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) and ARPES-Spectrum
  • Modeling of time-dependent electronic spectrum of solids as a function of FEL pulses
  • Investigation of charge and spin dynamics under ultra-strong and ultra-fast FEL pulse
  • Control of non-equilibrium quantum matter with specially shaped FEL pulses
  • Analyses of strong Light-Matter interaction in different XFEL experiments
  • Development of theoretical tools for X-ray spectroscopy of correlated materials
