European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
The Simulation of Photon Fields (SPF) Group devises and assesses novel advanced FEL schemes for improving the characteristics of the photon beams at the European XFEL. We pursue this goal by considering the needs of the users community and by working closely within a FEL R&D virtual group coordinated together with DESY, striving for further collaborations with several groups naturally involved in development activities, like the Undulator group, the X-ray Optics group and the Photon Diagnostics group at the European XFEL.
The SPF group is currently looking for two Physicists for XFEL performance improvement (f/m/d)
The successful candidates will contribute to the fulfillment of the mission of the SPF group and of the FEL R&D virtual group by being responsible for the following:
- Further developing, spreading and maintaining in-house FEL and Spontaneous Radiation-related theory
- Further developing and maintaining software necessary for the group mission, in particular the OCELOT software tool
- Devising and assessing advanced FEL schemes
- Taking part in the realization and commissioning of these schemes
- Taking part in FEL development activities during R&D beam time
- Ph.D. in FEL or accelerator Physics
- Knowledge of advanced FEL techniques
- Experience in simulation codes
- Experience in FEL operation is preferred
- Experience with Python programming and with the OCELOT software tool is considered an asset
