From Light Absorption to Transport We are pleased to announce a European workshop dedicated to exploring one-dimensional quantum systems, bringing together theorists and experimentalists. Since the discovery of the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid in the early 1980s, low-dimensional materials have provided a rich testing ground for theoretical predictions. In recent years, the field has seen exciting progress across multiple fronts. Notably, there have been significant advances in the theory of 1D systems beyond the traditional linear-dispersion paradigm—often in connection with cold atom quantum simulators—as well as in time-resolved pump-probe experiments and the synthesis of novel low-dimensional materials, including those based on Moiré patterns. This workshop aims to foster dialogue across these and other emerging areas, offering a platform for sharing insights, building collaborations, and identifying the key challenges and opportunities that lie ahead A hands-on workshop for UK and international users of IR hyperspectral imaging/microscopy, THz spectroscopy and IR nanospectroscopy This training course is a collaboration between Diamond Light Source (MIRIAM beamline B22), SOLEIL Synchrotron (SMIS beamline) and the University of Ljubljana. It aims to promote the QUASAR open-source software among the UK and international scientific research community. Across three days, the hands-on workshop will help current, prospective, and potential users working on a wide spectrum of IR applications, including: Biology and Medical imaging Materials and Engineering microanalysis Physical and Chemical Sciences Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Geology and Space Science Nanoscience and Metamaterials The goal is to provide comprehensive training on the use of QUASAR through interactive tutorials and real-world examples, drawn from IR microscopy (or Raman microspectroscopy) and imaging datasets — now including IR nanospectroscopy. The International Workshop on Phase Retrieval and Coherent Scattering is the leading international meeting focused on sharing the latest advances in developing and using coherent scattering methods with X-rays, extreme-ultraviolet light, and electrons recently enabled by advances in source technology.
