X-ray Science Division (XSD) of Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher who will be responsible for developing novel instruments and related methods to combine an x-ray nanoprobe and a cryogenic focused ion beam to realize multi-scale and multi-modality analysis of materials in cryogenic conditions. The candidate will lead the effort in instrument and methodology development as well as applications to materials, biological and environmental sciences. The position will also involve software development for image registration across different analytical platforms and correlative data analysis. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team environment including physicists, engineers, biologists and computer scientists. Results will be reported in appropriate forms: publications in refereed journals and oral presentations at meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. degree in physics, materials science, engineering, or related disciplines;
Comprehensive knowledge in at least two of the following fields: x-ray physics, x-ray microscopy, electron microscopy, vacuum systems, focused ion beam, image processing;
Considerable experience with electron microscopy, focused ion beam, preferably cryogenic microscopy;
Passionate about instrumentation and strong diagnostics skills;
Considerable experience with programming and software tools such as python and git;
Experience with automation, control, and instrument infrastructure is a plus;
Demonstrated experience working successfully as part of a team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary scientific environment;
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators and ability to work in a team environment.
