The second eBERlight 101 in-person workshop, organized by the eBERlight group at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), is designed for researchers at all career levels involved in bioenvironmental studies who want to explore key X-ray techniques in their scientific work. The focus is on synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence microscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and X-ray computed tomography – methods that allow investigation of the physical and chemical properties of bioenvironmental systems, including plants, soils, and microbes. Participants will learn about these techniques and sample preparation methods, conduct data collection using facility-provided samples at relevant APS beamlines, and analyze the data. Attendees will also discuss their individual projects and hear from invited experts, who will share examples of scientific applications and demonstrate how these methods can be used in research.
